All central Lisbon neighborhoods are safe. Baixa, Chiado, and Príncipe Real are particularly safe and well-lit at night. Petty theft can happen in crowded tourist areas, but violent crime is rare.

Question 3

Which neighborhood is best for first-time visitors to Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Baixa is best for first-timers - it's flat, central, has excellent metro connections, and puts you within walking distance from major sights. Chiado is a close second if you want slightly more character.

Question 4

Are there neighborhoods in Lisbon without steep hills?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Baixa, Cais do Sodré, and Belém are all flat neighborhoods along the river. Alfama and Graça have the steepest hills.

Question 5

Which Lisbon neighborhood is best for families with kids?

Accepted Answer

Campo de Ourique is best for families - quiet, safe, with parks and local cafés. Estrela is another excellent family choice with beautiful gardens. Both are residential areas away from tourist crowds and late-night noise.
